Red chokeberry is a small to medium sized shrub of wet meadows and shorelines. Preference is for full to part sun and moist to average soil. It is however readily adaptable to most gardens. Grows 6-10 feet tall. Roots will sucker to form a shrubby thicket. White flowers mid-spring (April-May) are followed by red fruits that can persist into the winter. Fall foliage is a mix of red and orange and is very brilliant. Zone 4-8. NJ ecotype.
