Leaves are glossy and brownish-red flowers appear from April to July. Flowers are sickly sweet and smell of over-ripe strawberries or possibly ink toner. Exceptionally deer resistant and can make a nice hedge. Fruits are rather odd looking pods full of dry nut-like seeds. Zone 4-9. Unknown ecotype.
