So, this form of the familiar green and gold has been in my nursery for a while and has been somewhat mysterious. Eventually I decided it was an odd form of var. australe and have been selling it as such. Recently I was informed of new genetic work done on Chrysogonum and that what I have was actually the new species: repens. So if anyone bought this from me in the past as australe….be advised, it’s not.

This lovely shade and drought tolerant ground cover grows in dry rocky woodlands, and barrens, often on Limestone rich soil.  This is a good plant for partially shady, well-drained areas. This new species is shorter, spreading, with small leaves, and forms a thick groundcover.  It’s 1”-2” bright yellow blossoms are prolific, blooming from April-Sept.  The plant is 3-5” tall.  zones 5-8.  NC. ecotype.
