This is a large rounded shrub closely related to spirea. It typically grows from 6-8 feet tall and forms a non-spreading clump. rounded white flower clusters appear from May-June followed by bright red seed pods that look amazing against the green leaves. Seed pods eventually dry and turn brown. The shrub at best has a yellowish fall color. Deer sometimes are a problem on it but not always. Preferred habitat is part sun and moist riverside thickets. Zone 2-8, VA ecotype.
