Swamp rose is a large, thorny shrub of creek and pond edges, marshes and other wetlands. Grows 5-7 feet tall and spreads to form a dense thicket. Very good for erosion control along streams and rivers. Preference is for full sun and wet (but not standing water) acidic soil. Pink flowers June-July. Large red rose hips in Autumn-Winter are very attractive visually and to migrating birds. Zone 4-9 / VA ecotype.
