Oenothera tetragona closely resembles Oenothera fruticosa except that is tends to prefer rich woodlands, has hairy stems, broader leaves and grows taller. Young spring growth often has speckled or even solidly purple coloration. Soils are typically dry and well-drained but organically rich. Preference is for part sun. Flowers appear in June-July on 2-3 foot tall stems. Zone 3-8. VA ecotype. // Seed packet, about 50-100 seeds. Germination requirements: 60 days cold, moist stratification.
