White crownbeard is also sometimes called frostweed because a hard frost will split the base of the stem allowing the sap to escape and freeze into frosty ribbons. This is an attractive tall perennial of limestone-rich woodlands and meadows. Can be weedy. Attracts tons of pollinating insects and a great plant for naturalizing in a meadow or field. Grows around 6 feet tall and has white flowers July-September. Zone 5-9. TN ecotype. // Seed packet, about 50 seeds. Germination requirements: 60 days cold, moist stratification.
