Purple-leaf Cardinal flower is a naturally occurring seed-strain that has varying amounts of red pigment in the leaves and stems. Some are quite dark while others are mostly green. Otherwise the same as the typical form. Growing in wet mucky soils, flood-plains, creek edges and wet-meadows. Plants grow from 2-4 feet tall and have dark red flowers in mid-summer July-August.
