Salvia lyrata (Lyre-leaf Sage)
Salvia lyrata (Lyre-leaf Sage)
Sun to shade; Moist to dry sandy or clay soils; Another of my favorite "grow-anywhere" plants. Not particular about soils (though usually found on organic poor sandy or clayey soil). It will also tolerate any amount of sunlight short of the deepest darkest pine forests. The semi-evergreen leaves hug the ground and are often marked with a purple pattern. The flower stalk emerges in early spring and blooming will occur periodically throughout the growing season. Excellent early spring forage for honey bees. Grows 1-2' tall; Blooms April to September (off and on); Zone 5-8; WV. VA. ecotypes
