This evergreen tree grows in coastal swamps and wet woodlands. Grows 20-30 feet tall. Related to Spicebush the foliage is fragrant and useful in cooking. Yellow flowers appear May-June followed by blue fruits. Unlike spicebush this plant is not diecious (separate male and female plants). Full to part sun. Wet to moist soil. Zone 7-11. VA ecotype.
