Zephyranthes atamasca (Atamasco Lily)
Atamasco Lily also known as Rain Lily is a small, clump-forming, large-flowered lily that inhabits moist, acidic, woodlands and meadows in the southern coastal plain and piedmont. Preference is for part shade and moist, organic-rich, acidic soils. White flowers are lightly tinged with pink and are fairly large from 3-4 inches wide. Blooming primarily occurs March through May. Flowers and broad, grass-like leaves fifteen inches tall, arise from a bulb in early spring and the whole plant usually goes entirely dormant in the Summer. Zone 7-10 (6 possible with shelter). SC/AL mixed ecotypes.
