This is a small rhizomatous fern that prefers deep shade and moist, mossy, rocky woodlands, ledges, and streambanks, usually in limestone rich areas. Small “bulbs” form under the leaves, drop off, and make new ferns. Grows 6-18 inches tall. Zone 4-10 / unknown ecotype
