Gaylussacia baccata (Black Huckleberry)

$12.50

Black Huckleberry is very similar to low-bush blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium) and can be found in similar habitats such as dry, sandy, acidic and thinly canopied woodlands as well as sandy bogs. They have red-pink flowers and black berries that are sweet but fairly seedy compared to blueberries. Foliage is bright green compared to the blue-green of blueberries (a quick visual way to tell them apart). Grows 1-3 feet tall. Runs to form a large patch. Blooms May-June. Preference is for part shade and well-drained, acidic soil. Zone 4-7. MI ecotype
