This large bulb can be found growing in moist woodlands, wet meadows, floodplain forests and other wet but well drained soil (moisture retentive not swampy or standing water). Grows 1-2 feet tall with thin strappy leaves. Flower stalks can be taller with several large, white spindly flowers mid-summer (June-August). Preference is for part shade but can tolerate full sun in cooler climates. Soils should be regularly moist, will not tolerate very dry situations. Zone (5)6-8. Mixed ecotypes: TN, AL, GA.
