Sweet grass is a fast-spreading short grass of lime-rich wet meadows and shorelines. Adaptable as a stabilizing grass for restoration or moist raingardens. This grass is also important in medicine and ceremonies of Native Americans where the plant is dried, braided and burned releasing a sweet vanilla fragrance. Grows 1-2' tall. Yellow-green flower stalks appear in the spring March-April followed by clusters of sweet-smelling seed heads. This plant spreads fast to form a sod. Zone 3-7. Mid-West Ecotype.
