Shade to part shade; rich, moist soil; goldenseal’s most distinctive part is its bright yellow root which sends up a single stalk with one to two maple-like leaves. the flower is white and produces a fruit like a red raspberry. Forms extensive colonies in the wild but it is becoming rare due to over collection for its valuable roots; about 1’ tall; blooms April-May; zones 4-8; WV. ecotype.
