Typical green-leaf form of cardinal flower. Growing in wet mucky soils, flood-plains, creek edges and wet-meadows. Plants grow from 2-4 feet tall and have dark red flowers in mid-summer July-August. Flowers are much loved by hummingbirds, butterflies, and sphinx moths. Zone 3-9. VA and commercial ecotypes as available.
