This small perennial forms extensive colonies in cold mountain and northern woodlands. Growing 4-8 inches tall and tipped with white flowers in May it occasionally produces small red fruits. Makes an attractive spring groundcover but does go dormant in the summer. Preference is for part to full shade and acidic, well-drained, organic rich soils. Zone 4-8 / VA ecotype
