Mountain aster is a low woodland perennial ranging from New England and Canada south into the lower Blue Ridge Mountains. It grows 10-14 inches tall (sometimes taller) and has runners that allow it to form a groundcover-like colony. White flowers appear in late summer and autumn from August to October. Preference is for part to full shade and moist to dry soil conditions. Zone 2-6. VA ecotype.
