Passiflora incarnata (Maypops)

Passiflora incarnata (Maypops)

$12.50

Maypops, or Purple Passionflower, is a climbing, herbaceous vine that can grow to 10-15 feet long or more. It also produces numerous root suckers so use caution in small gardens as this plant can become “a bit much”. Not reliably winter-hardy in colder climates and may not produce ripe fruit except in areas with a longer growing season. Never-the-less it is an extremely attractive vine with large pink to purple flowers from July to October which are followed by edible passionfruit (when able to ripen). Leaves are also edible and make a tea that helps with insomnia. Preference is for full to part shade and moist to average soil. Zone 6-9. Unknown ecotype.
