Formerly Senecio aureus. Golden groundsel is a great all-purpose native groundcover. Tough, adaptable and fast spreading. The perfect replacement for vinca or Ivy. Plants have semi-evergreen foliage that will produce 1-2 foot tall flower stalks in the spring from April to May. Flowers are yellow. Spreads by both seeds and underground rhizomes to make a thick, weed-suppressing cover. Preference is for part shade and moist soil but will tolerate a wide variety of sun and soil moisture situations. Zone 4-9. WV and VA mixed ecotypes.
