Sourwood is a small to medium sized tree related to Azaleas, Rhododendrons and Blueberries. Preference is for full sun and well drained, rocky or sandy, acidic soil. Fairly slow growing but blooming at a young age. Flowers are white, bell shaped and appear in drooping clusters in the summer from June to July. Fall color is bright red. Zone 5-9. Unknown ecotype.
