Smalls beardtongue is an attractive wildflower of the southern Appalachian Mountains. It inhabits bright upland woodlands, woodland edges, outcrops, and other dry semi-shady locations. Best in well-drained soil in part sun. Grows 12-14 inches tall with lots of long-lasting pink and lavender bicolor flowers from May to July. Do not pamper this plant! It will not appreciate rich soil or excessive mulch. Zone 5-8. NC ecotype.
