This is a rhizomatous, ground-cover forming, wildflower of sandy coastal pinelands and dry meadows and clearings in the ridge and valley regions of the lower Appalachian mountains.. Silver-gray, grassy foliage with yellow flowers September to November. Grows 10-14 inches tall. Preference is for full to part sun and very dry well-drained soil. Zone 6-9. TN ecotype.
