American plum is a large thicket-forming shrub or small tree to 15-20 feet tall. White flowers appear in March-April and are followed by small, cherry-like plums that are tart but good. Preference is for average to dry soils and full to part sun. Fruit production is facilitated by the planting of multiple individuals for cross-pollination. Zone 4-8. VA ecotype.
