Full sun to light shade; rich moist soil; very similar to its relative C. hebecarpa, except shorter and the seed pods are smoother and dark brown when ripe (see photo, hebecarpa on left, marilandica on right): 2’-5’ tall; blooms Jul-Aug. hardy in zones 4-8; WV. ecotype. // Seed packet, about 30 seeds.
