Sida hermaphrodita (Virginia Fanpetals) Seeds
Virginia fanpetals is a tall mallow that is relatively rare in the eastern states (though it is locally common in some midwestern ones). The plant is extremely versatile and will grow in wet to dry soils in light shade or full sun. Grows from 6 to 8 feet tall with broad blue-green foliage and topped with numerous small white mallow flowers (June-July). Can be prolific and will fill in thickly. Best used in areas with other taller plants or for difficult areas requiring erosion control or where other plants have trouble establishing. Grows well in clay hard-pan. Interestingly this plant was imported to eastern-Europe where it is used as a high-protein animal fodder as well as bio-energy. Zone 4-7. WV ecotype. // Seed packet, about 50 seeds. Germination requirements: 60 days cold, moist stratification.
