This short, fine-textured grass is a great addition to dry, sunny gardens and meadows. Primarily a plant of the mid-west it also has a handful of rare, disjunct populations in serpentine barrens along the east coast. Clumping and well behaved it mixes well with other prairie plants such as Echinacea and Rudbeckia. Grows 2-3’ tall with fine drooping foliage and orange-brown panicles that have a fragrance (one of the few fragrant grasses). Flowering occurs August-September. Foliage turns a nice pumpkin orange in the fall. Zone 3-9. PA ecotype. // Seed packet, about 50 seeds. Germination requirements: 60 days cold, moist stratification.
