Upland Ironweed is one of the only dry-loving ironweed species native to the mid-atlantic region. Preference is for full sun and poor, dry soil. Can be hard to distinguish from other ironweeds apart from it’s preferred habitat but in the autumn the seeds turn a buttery yellow color much lighter in tone than the darker seeds or common ironweeds. Plants are clump-forming and grow up to 6 feet tall and have purple flowers July-August. A great butterfly attractor. Zone 5-9. VA ecotype. // Seed packet, about 100 seeds. Germination requirements: 60 days cold, moist stratification.
