American wisteria is a large vine growing in moist thickets from the Virginia coast and south. It is easily grown in average garden soil with full sun to dappled shade and a stout structure or tree to grow on. Can grow up to 40 feet tall or long and can be rather aggressive though not so much as the non-native species. This is a big vine! Give it plenty of room to grow. Lilac-blue flower clusters are smaller and only slightly fragrant and appear with the leaves from May to June. Zone 5-9. Unknown ecotype from Bartrams Gardens in Philadelphia. 15 seeds per packet/ Germination requirements: 30 days cold moist stratification.
