Commelina virginica (Virginia Dayflower) Seeds
The Virginia dayflower is a much larger plant than its diminutive and weedy cousin, the Asian dayflower. Looking rather like a spiderwort this plant can form extensive clumps in moist sandy wetlands though it is equally happy in almost any rich, moist and sunny soil. Can get a bit overwhelming, like spiderworts. But if you have a large area you want to quickly fill with a native flower..this will do it. Mixes nicely with other strong growers like Turtlehead, River oats and Obedient plant. Plants grow 10-14” tall and stiffly upright. Baby-blue flowers with 3 conspicuous petals appear from July to September. Spreads readily by seed and rhizome. Zone 6-8. Virginia ecotype. // Seed packet, about 20-30 seeds. Germination requirements: 60 days cold, moist stratification.
