Coreopsis major thrives in poor soil or no soil and hot dry sun or shady locations. Common on shale barrens, cliffs, and craggy ground throughout the southern Appalachian mountains. Grows 1-3' tall. Spreads readily through underground roots to form small colonies. Poor soil limits its spread. Yellow flowers appear from June through August. Zone 5-9. WV ecotype. // Seed packet, about 50 seeds. Germination requirements: 60 days cold, moist stratification.
