Wand blazingstar is very similar to grass-leaf blazingstar (Liatris pilosa) and was once grouped with it under the combined name of Liatris graminifolia. Basically this plant represents the mountain populations of the former species which is largely coastal plain in distribution. It is a small plant 8-14 inches tall with narrow grassy foliage. It prefers very sunny and dry well drained soil. Flowers are purple and appear late in the summer to early fall (August-October). Zone 5-9. VA ecotype. // Seed packet, about 50 seeds. Germination requirements: 60 days cold, moist stratification.
