Giant Ironweed is very like New York Ironweed in appearance and habitat. its most distinguishing feature is that it is considerably taller (6-10 feet tall). Preference is for full sun and moist to wet soils in part to full sun. Typically, this plant has purple flowers in August to September. Zone 5-8 / VA. ecotype.
