This unusual plant is found on well-drained shale banks and hills. This member of the mint family produces beautiful bottle-brush shaped spikes of purple-pink flowers in mid-summer. The foliage is equally exciting; dark green leaves with purple veins grow in thick rosettes on steep slopes. A nice choice for rock gardeners, plant in light deciduous shade. Plants with flower stalks are roughly 2’ ft. This plant is hardy in zones 5-8; VA. ecotype.
