Pink turtlehead is very similar to Chelone obliqua but with a more southern Appalachian range (obliqua is more in the prairies), taller with softer pink flowers and broad shiny foliage. Preference is for partial shade and moist acidic soils. Typically found in damp, cove-forest edges and glades. The ‘Hot Lips’ Cultivar has darker pink flowers and shiny leaves but is otherwise very like the typical species. Spreads readily to form a large patch. Zone 4-7
