Appalachian Blazingstar is very similar to Liatris scariosa var. scariosa in looks and habitat. It differs in being rather taller and lankier with smaller button-like flower heads and fuzzy stems and leaves. Preference is for dry rocky soils in full sun to part shade. Flowers are pink-purple and appear fairly late in the season from September to October. Plants grow from 3-4 feet tall. Zone 6-9; NC ecotype.
