One of a few native crabapples in the Appalachian region. This small tree is usually found in rich soils and grows in thorny thickets often at higher elevations. It is a small tree reaching around 20 feet tall and has clusters of pinkish-white flowers mid spring (May). Fruits are small (1-2 inches in diameter), yellowish and very, very tart. Zone 4-8. VA ecotype.
