Pycnanthemum montanum has a poor common name. It really should be called THE mountain mountainmint as it really is only found in the highest parts of the Appalachian mountains (especially the Smokey Mountains). Growing 2-4 feet tall with purplish leaves and clusters of Yellow-white flowers mid-summer (July-Aug). Preference is for cool summers and moist soil in part to full sun. Leaves of this plant often turn all purple. Zone 4-6. NC ecotype.
