Closely related to true Aloe (Agave) this hardy perennial grows from Ohio to Texas. Leaves are fleshy and succulent but probably cannot be used as a salve as they are thinner and smaller than Aloe. Grows in limestone glades in the wild but adaptable to a thin well drained soil in a rock garden. Foliage is only 10-12" tall but the flower stalk may reach 6-7 feet tall. Salmon-colored flowers are lightly fragrant and bloom in the summer (July-August). Zone 6-9. TN ecotype. // Seed packet, about 30 seeds min. Germination requirements: 60 days cold, moist stratification.
